Saturday 31st July 2010

St. Mary’s Loch, ScottishBorders
(off A708 Moffat to Selkirk road).

Registration: 31st of July at the Lochside, time will be shown closer to the event. Collect your race number, swim cap, any final details etc. Bikes must be racked on your numbered slot before the Race Briefing.

Briefing: In the Transition Area.

Rules: Normal Triathlon Scotland rules will apply – see www.triathlonscotland.org for further details. This includes drafting – i.e. don’t (not that you’ll get much chance on your mountain bike!).

Start: To be confirmed closer to the date, there will be two starts, Sprint and Standard. Precise times to be confirmed at Registration.

Format: There will be two separate races on the day over two distances. It is your responsibility to make sure you turn in the correct place, do the right number of laps, and follow the course. We’ll do our best to place signs, markers and marshals to keep you right!.

The Durty Triathlon Sprint – The Short, Fast Durty One

750m Open Water Swim (wetsuits compulsory – these can be hired if required from www.thetricentre.com) One lap, deep water start.

15km Off-Road Mountain Bike. This will be on a combination of tracks, forest roads and paths, and is a bit hilly (ahem!). There’s nothing wildly extreme, however, this is proper mountain biking in places, not just riding round a lovely grassy field – if you feel the need to walk a bit, no problem, we’d prefer you stay in one piece!. One lap.

5km Off-Road Run. It’s an ‘out-and-back’ single lap along a slightly undulating lochside path. Nice. :)

Rules: Normal Triathlon Scotland rules will apply – see www.triathlonscotland.org for further details. This includes drafting – i.e. don’t (not that you’ll get much chance on your mountain bike!), and littering transition, car park or course. This will result in an instant DQ, no quibbles!. The relationship we have with the landowners and the stunning location depends entirely on you behaving yourself on this issue – no gel wrappers, banana skins, plastic cups, bottles, nowt!”

The Durty TriathlonStandard – The Long, Hard Durty One

1500m Open Water Swim (wetsuits compulsory – these can be hired if required from www.thetricentre.com). Two Laps, deep water start.

30km Off-Road Mountain Bike. Two Laps, passing transition at the end of lap one.

10km Off-Road Run. Hilly!. Largely on good tracks and forest roads, there’s also a section through a forest ‘ride’, and across some open hillside.
